Never Forget 09/11/01

I was going back and forth today about whether I should post anything. I didn’t want to put any of my usual shit talking because of what today represents.

I decided that I would write about my experience on 9/11, but when it came down to it I found myself struggling to remember anything from that day. There were maybe 5 memories that stood out. Just 5. You would think after living through such a tragic event that everything that happened on 9/11/01 would be imbedded in my memory.

All I remember is hearing someone ( I can’t even tell you who I heard it from all I know was that I was in a class room, I don’t know the subject, the teacher or even my other classmates) say that a plane crashed into the World Trade Center. In my 11 year old head I was wondering what they were talking about, what was the World Trade Center. I didn’t realize it until someone said the Twin Towers. As soon as I heard Twin Towers I looked out the classroom window towards the City and saw the smoke coming out of the towers. After that all I remember is my name being called on the intercom to go to the main office. I can’t even remember who it was that picked me up I think it was my aunt but I can’t be sure. We walked to my house sat down in the living room turned the TV on and waited for the rest of my family to get home. At the time I didn’t know anyone that worked in NYC both my parents worked in Jersey, but today while I was looking trough my social media I saw a lot from one of my High School classmates. He wrote about what he went through and that his mother worked in the City at the time. My heart broke for this guy, his mom got home safe, but all I could imagine was what the family must have been going through.

I find it insane that the events on 9/11 is now in history books. Something I lived through 15 years ago is now being taught in classrooms. That’s mind blowing.

Love Ya from the Moon and Back,

Emily (Never Forget 09/11/01)
